The ACRN Sober Living Code of Ethics
*Be dedicated to recognizing the dignity and worth of all those we serve. At all times managers or other staff shall treat each client with respect and dignity.
*Embrace diversity and inclusivity, ensuring non-discriminatory practices in all resident interactions and support.
*Assess each resident’s unique needs, ensuring that the level of support available aligns with these needs. Provide assistance for referrals when the residence cannot meet specific requirements and offer resources to clients determined to best fit their needs.
*Honor each resident’s chosen recovery path, as long as it aligns with the residence’s guidelines and overall mission.
*Maintain an alcohol and drug free environment.
*Maintain quality housing that is consistent with the quality of the neighborhood and demonstrate activities that benefit the immediate neighbors.
*Staff members who struggle with Substance Use Disorder must be abstinent and sober at least six months and remain actively involved in their own recovery program. Staff members who do not struggle with Substance Use Disorder are to refrain from using substances while on duty.
*No physical violence, threats of violence, prejudice or bullying is ever tolerated.
*Staff shall never become romantically or sexually involved with a client in their sober living program.
*Staff shall never become involved with a client's financial or business affairs, unless providing client budgeting skills. This includes borrowing or lending money, buying or selling property or other financial transactions other than any program or house fee transactions.
*House Managers and Staff are to respect the privacy and personal rights of all clients.
*Prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of all residents in daily operations.
*Assure that no weapons, pornography, gambling or advertisement of drugs or alcohol are allowed on sober living premises.
*Conduct drug testing in a fair and consistent manner, ensuring it promotes recovery and protects resident privacy and the safety of the residence. No unethical drug or alcohol screening price gouging, insurance fraud or any fraud permitted.
*No brokering of clients for financial gain or “kickbacks” between any and all recovery providers.
*Adhere to the Management Health, Safety and Staff standards set forth in NCARR Standards and Ethics Codes to ensure a homelike environment.
*Staff must pass a background check.
*Implement and apply all residence rules in a consistent, transparent, and fair manner.
*Treat each resident fairly and equitably, addressing individual needs without bias.
*Encourage and support residents in building relationships with recovery professionals, support service providers, and allies.
*Protect residents and staff from retribution, intimidation, or any negative consequences related to filing a grievance or complaint.
*Represent the residence in all marketing and advertising with honesty, accuracy, and transparency.
*Avoid taking a primary role in the recovery plans of close family members, friends, or business associates to prevent conflicts of interest.
*Maintain transparency in all operational and financial decisions, ensuring ethical management and accountability.
*Uphold professional and personal boundaries to maintain trust and a respectful atmosphere in the recovery residence.
*Operate within the residence’s defined scope of services and each staff member’s professional training and credentials.
*Maintain all Policies and Procedures as presented above.
